Historical Background:
The Antonov An-12BP with registration LZ-SFA, serial number 01348007, was constructed in the early 1970s. Initially serving with the Yugoslav Air Force under the serial number 73311 and registration YU-AIC, the aircraft transitioned to civilian operations in the 1990s. It was registered as LZ-SGA with Sigi Air Cargo in May 1991 and subsequently as LZ-SFA with Air Sofia in March 1992 .
In the early 2000s, LZ-SFA was leased to Pacific Air Express (PAE) in Australia, where it operated cargo flights out of Brisbane. The aircraft was noted at various international airports, including Luqa (Malta) in August 1992 and Palma de Mallorca (Spain) in February 1997 . After its tenure with Air Sofia, the aircraft changed hands multiple times, eventually being registered as UP-AN201 with Mach Cargo in February 2008. As of November 2008, it was stored at Fujairah International Airport in the United Arab Emirates .
